College skit injects dark humour
THEY may be evil, but
it doesn’t mean they are incapable of affection. Love trumps all
else, as was proven when several notorious villains of Hollywood lore
took to the stage with their loved ones for Valentine’s Day.
Aptly themed Gothic Valentine, the short skit was the highlight of
Kolej Damansara Utama (KDU) Penang’s Valentine’s Day celebrations
organised by the college’s Centre for English Language (CEL).
Played by CEL students, famous Hollywood villains such as Imhotep
(The Mummy), Chucky (Child’s Play) and even Count Dracula suppressed
their hunger for blood and displayed a more tender side of their
otherwise dark characters.
Complete with makeup and costumes, they were a hit with the college’s
students as they paraded around with their brides.

“College years are the best years of our lives to build up this rocky
foundation of accepting others and their weaknesses, and mo-ving
forward hand in hand with others,” said KDU principal Dr Chong Beng
Keok in her opening speech.
CEL programme leader Evelyn Lim explained that they decided on a
Gothic theme as the college’s celebrations this year fell on Fri-day
the 13th. The department’s staff even brought in a professional
makeup artist to dress up the characters played by foreign students
from Turkmenistan, Libya, Thailand and China.
Throughout the day, several stalls were set up for students to play
fun games. Some were blindfolded and had to piece together a foam
heart based solely on directions from friends while others tried out
dart throwing.
There were also stalls selling Valentine’s Day goodies such as
flowers, teddy bears and handmade personal accessories. Many were
seen picking up something lovely for their significant other before
hurrying off to class.
